Dollar Cove

I've long wanted to go to Dollar Cove - but it's mysteriously missing from Ordnance Survey maps.... today, after a visit to Halzephron House I had an opportunity and (apart from nearly being blown away!), it was just as pretty as I'd hoped.

Here are some pictures -

Bluebell woods at Carlidnack in Cornwall

The bluebells were early this year and have been looking lovely in the garden and around the village, but I especially liked this picture of Bluebell woods at Carlidnack in Cornwall.

Rock sculpture at Penzance

The weather this last fortnight has been amazing - like June, with beautiful blue skies to match. Too busy enjoying it to take any photos but was struck by this one from Penzance posted on Twitter.

From a couple of weeks ago, I didn't build the rocks up ... on Twitpic

Cornish pronunciation

I'm interested in Cornish pronunciation, as well as that of the connected Celtic nations. Simple things like Celtic Keltic or Seltic to more complicated ones like Lanhydrock or Godolphin. So I was interested in the item in today's WMN living Cornwall which mentioned I don't necessarily consider myself as pure Cornish, though my Rawe surname goes back at least to the 12th century (Radulphus, introduced by the Norman Vikings, shortened to Raw by the Cornish and to Ralph by the English).

Cornwall Floods & sights beautiful and ....

The floods in mid-Cornwall on Wednesday have caused a lot of pain to a lot of people but I was struck by this very beautiful picture or the car park at Respryn from NTDevonCornwall

Then there's a rather different picture....

If it's Friday - it must be time for Ice Cream

Mr B's were holding a Macmillan Coffee morning

Please come and support our Macmillan Coffee morning on Friday 24th September. We'll be making loads of Coffee ice creams and a couple of fruity tea sorbets. There will be a raffle and other cakey type things to help raise money from 10.30am until 5.30pm

with lots of coffee flavoured ice creams and cakes, it was a beautiful day, so we thought we'd best do our bit for charity and check it out ;)

The Best Pub Jukebox in the World

Had the best time at the Bird in the Hand pub in Hayle.  Becky, the pub manager was really friendly and approachable and the food was excellent. Russell said the Liver and Onions was the best he'd had! - their web site is not so hot - not even an address or a phone number(!), but the food is good and the beers were great and the company even better - Hi Nick!! belated Happy Birthday..

The Loggan Stone

I came across a lovely book on Project Gutenberg - Rambles Beyond Railways; or, Notes in Cornwall taken A-foot, by Wilkie Collins 1861

I particulary liked the story of the Loggan Stone [Pg 141]

From Marazion we walked to Penzance, from Penzance to the beautiful coast scenery at Lamorna Cove, and thence to Trereen, celebrated as the halting place for a visit to one of Cornwall's greatest curiosities—the Loggan Stone.
