            NEW MISSIONARY FILM

  A new film depicting scenes in Palestine
was shown at Redruth Picturedrome on
Tuesday and yesterday, and attracted
large audiences.   The picture is the joint
work of Mr. T H. Baxter, secretary of the
Missionary Film Committee in which seven
missionary societies co-operate, and Mr.
Henry Howse, kinematographer to one of
the Shackleton expeditions.

  To avoid the pitfalls of a mere series of
travel pictures on the one hand and of a
religious film of limited appeal on the
other was not an easy task, but the pro-
ducers have been eminently successful.
The film gives a vivid picture of the
Palestine of to-day, with its flourishing 
and up-to-date Zionist colonies, contrasted
With its primitive life, unchanged for
thirty centuries.

  Excellent local arrangements were in the
hands of Mr. J. M. Bear.   The afternoon
performances were attended by children
from various schools in the town and dis-
trict, under the direction of Mr. W. Edgar
Shier (headmaster of Trewirgie Boys’
School).   At each performance Mr. T.
Oates, of Barncoose, lectured on Palestine
and referred to the fine service performed
in that country during the war by the
1/4th Battalion, Duke of Cornwall's Light
Infantry which comprised a large num-
ber of Cornishmen.   Many of these men
made the supreme sacrifice in that country
and were buried in cemeteries, some of
which were shown on the screen.   A sub-
stantial sum was raised for missionary
funds.
